Can we do mediation if my children are adults?

Families are complex and conflict can arise at any time, regardless of the age of the people involved. Mediation is a strong process for handling such conflicts, but it is voluntary and without coercion.

The usual pattern in Family Dispute Resolution involves children who are under age, meaning that their parents are working together to make any arrangements. The children are very rarely involved in these negotiations to protect them from feelings of guilt and obligation that might hinder their development. If parents are not able to come to meaningful agreements, then the issues may be brought before the Court for resolution.

When the children are adults, they are free and able to make their own decisions. It would be exceptional for their parents to be making arrangements for them as if they were children.

Mediation is possible with adult children but it is quite a different process. In these circumstances, the conflict may be more suitably managing with a counsellor or psychologist.
